XP seems to make all CDs write protected whenever I copy anything to them.
It also seems to make the files on the CD read-only, with no ability to
change the read-only tag.

Is there a way I can remove the protection and also change the read-only
tag.

That's the way she works. Copy the files to the hard drive, to make
changes. For info on the capabilities and limitations of CD burning...

Unfortunately, that is the way XP's CD software works. You will need 3rd
party software like Nero, or other, to do anything else with CD's.

Thanks for all the info. I understand how this works on my new laptop with a high speed CD.
I don't understand what is different about my old machine, where I could use Explorer to move files back and forth from the CD to C:. Is it because I have a different speeds CD in the two machines?
