zones in FFXI Vana' Deil are like playing on a chessboard.
not only do you have to be concerned with the monster's
abilities, you have to be aware of linking and hate adding
to your relative location in an area. Some monsters will
chase, drop you, then lock on to you again once they
move to a better attack position. Some will chase you clear
out of the zone, and continue to chase you until you zone out.
Graphics are fantastic.
Direct comparison of FFXI to WoW would be that
WoW is a scaled down faster levelling, faster skilling,
Quick instant action European type game. The WoW
game can be over, finished, done in one tenth the time
of FFXI. FFXI is a game of chess, WoW is a game of
Dynomite by PoP Caps.
basically imho. I play both, and have to deliberately slow
my level WoW advancement down to a snails pace if I am to
enjoy the fun of WoW and play every little nuance to its
fullest. Like Dirge always said "Time is money friend".
Imho: you aren't waiting for anything - you are looking for
game "nitch" that matches your game play style.
if WoW ain't it - it ain't it. Don't bad mouth a really fun
game. Good laughs and great fun. But I sad it to short
a game, and if I just play to have most fun - it be over.
over is to bad so sad. I thinking about what game next
to play already. With FFXI i can play and strategise my
next game goal in my mind during my morning commute
and evening drive home. I can think about re doing a monster
from a different approach and confrontation. Like I'll sneak
up from around a hill or come over the top. I'll wait until
the monster is hidden from view by other monsters.
Drat ! In Mhara the monsters hide with a "bait" monster
roaming around - you jump him and they come out of hiding.
chess - grasshopper - chess.
likewise in WoW - you just come charging into a crowd of monsters
screaming like a banshee flailing your arms wildly - draw you weapon
fire your shotgun AOE everything that moves of flinches and poof its
over.
