This seems ridiculous but when I go to my start menu and try to start my
internet explorer the Internet Properties box pops up instead of my internet
explorer home page. This has never happened before so I'm at a loss. To get
to the internet I had to go to windows update and browse from there. How do
I get my settings back so I can open internet explorer??
Thanks

That is not hard to fix. But first you should varify that it is just the link
in the start menu that is causing it. Try opening EI directly from the
program file.

I couldn't open IE from the program files. I just kept getting all the
wizards that wanted to help me set up a connection. Even after i went thru
the wizard and it said I was connected it would not let me open it from the
start menu.

Ok so the program it's self is having the issue not just the link. I would
suggest just reinstalling IE.

Which OS? This is the sort of problem an IE Repair used
to fix before XP dropped that feature. Ref. KB194177.

In any case you could try Run... (e.g. press Win-R and enter:)

regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll

The problem is that the default action for the icon (indicated
by which right-click menu item is bold ) is now Properties instead of
Open. So you should be able to use the icon's right-click menu
more conveniently than what you were doing.
