If for some reason you needed to get another computer for yourself .. or a
best friend .... Would you buy another 87N8X motherboard or would you opt to
go for another NF2 board .. or perhaps the Intel solution.

I am torn between getting a BIOSTAR M7NCD ... NF2 board, very low cost -
low OC'er with decent performance.. and getting a new Athlon 64 downstream
when things come out and settle down.

Getting the ASUS 87N8X (Non Deluxe .. don't need SATA or firewire .. and
have soundcard) .. and sticking with this board for a year or so.

Go Intel with the P4P800 and a 2.4C CPU .. good Ocher.

What would you suggest?

Thanks

I can feel the pain ;-)

I just have had it some time ago, but finally I decided to buy P4P800 Delux,
since the non-delux is only about 23 $US less. Though I do not need RAID
and SATA, having it with few bucks more seems fine with me.

At least the P4P800 can be used with P4 3.2ghz, which means I can safely
use it for about 2 - 3 years from now. The speed of P4 2.2ghz is enough for
most of my work, therefore I can wait till the P4 3.2 ghz is cheap enough.

The Gigabyte 8IK1100, also i865 chip, costs almost the same as P4P800,
but the Gigabyte 8IK1100 has no RAID. So Asus board appears to be
cheaper. SATA now is on every board, you have to take it or not.

Now that I've gone thru my usual grief upgrading I'd definitely get
another one if this one barfed on me, and I've also recommended 'em to
friends. Aside from the poor documentation surrounding the memory
timing (once I'd found that that was causing my problems) I have to
say this was the easiest upgrade I'd done. If I'd known about synching
the memory to FSB it would've been flawless.
