Would you buy 2003 now or later?

Like everyone else I'm eagerly awaiting the FP2003 enhancements.

Like lots of people I've also been burned by installing pre-first
service pack releases.

Do those of you who have been using the final beta or the MDSN download
have an opinion on whether this product is ready to buy at the end of
the month, or to wait for it to mature a bit?

Erin,
I've been using it for about 3 months now. Rock solid stable; I mean not even a
single glitch in 3 months, and I make my living with it, so I'm dang intimate
with it all day long. There are so many great things and improvements in it
over previous versions. I would grab it up ASAP.

I am currently using FP 2000 and want to obtain the upgrade to 2003. Does
anyone know if Comcast is going to upgrade their server extensions to
include 2003? They currently only support 2002 and earlier. I am only
running a small web on comcast just for family to keep in touch so this is
not some earth-shattering business decision, but would like to know before I
splurge for the upgrade. Thanks for any info.
Karen

FP 2003 does not come with FP server extensions, and there will be no
further versions. It uses 2002 and 2000 extensions.

Not a far as the FP extensions are concerned. The other new features of
FP2003 require a Windows IIS server.

Hummmm.... so if you are doing work mostly with unix, etc servers the new
features in 2003 will really not help you?

So then, for that kind of person what in the product is worth the upgrade?

(note: this is a sincere question... I'm not being a smart ass! lol )

Thanks

Personally, I am still using FP2000 for all development and use FP2002 to
help folks here, and will do the same with FP2003.

Tom,
My work is all on Unix servers. IMHO FP2003 has more than enough changes in
the GUI and other (server independent) features, such as layers, behaviours,
dynamic templates, remote site view - the list is almost endless - to
justify an upgrade over any previous version of FP.

Personally, I'd pay $100 just for the "Find and Replace" functionality in
FrontPage 2003. It is quite amazing that I can now search for very complex
HTML (like "find me all img tags without alt attributes and replace with img
tags with alt attributes, for example). But along with that: code snippets,
behaviors and layout tables make it totally worth the price of upgrade. As
Ronx mentions, all of these features are completely server independent.

If you like Code Snippets, make sure you check out the information on my
book on my Web site! The CD on my book contains an exclusive add-in from
Jimco Add-ins that allows you to easily manage and backup Code Snippets.
Not available anywhere else. :)

End of shameless plug.
