I can't be the only one who has ssen this problem:

Each time I reboot Win XP Pro, I get a different set of tray icons, (or
whatever they're called in XP)

Why is this and how might I go about fixing it?

Thanks so very much. I know you precious time coould well be spent on othrt
things.

Technology; ain't it grand?

I know what you mean about getting frustrated and at times impatient waiting for a response that may never come from ng's Barbara. I've had a similar issue with some wandering QuickLaunch icons. While no guru by any stretch of the imagination I do luck out from time to time knowing where to rub the lamp. I can promise you that when and if the mayvens here respond you're sure to get more questions than you originally asked. Like: the tray icons you mentioned; are they off to the left near the start button, or towards the right where the clock is?

just try not to take it personally, K?

Right click on the taskbar and click properties, click
hide inactive icons, and then click customise.

You will now have a list of each program that is running
and you can choose whether each tray icon is always hide,
always show, or hide when inactive.

I set up all my icons as either always show (the few I
use the most), or always hide for the rest of them. This
keeps the taskbar/traybar nice and tidy.

The hide when inactive is a bit of a pain as it means
icons tend to come and go, which I personally dont like.

Whenever you get a new program/icon, or now and agin when
things go a bit awry, just repeat the same procedure.
Youll proberly find that the (now) troublesome new icon
is set to hide when inactive. Just change it per your
preference to hide or show.

Hope this helps, and hope now some will answer my query!
