I started having the problems that the article 316537
mentioned. I cant download any files other than
quicktime. when i click on "download" from a site it wont
start, I cant even get macromedia's site to open now. It
just gives me the "sorry we couldn't locate it, here's a
few related sites" and lists www.macromedia.com's link
that doesnt work. So I assume my problem can be fixed
with the reg edit that is mentioned in the 316537
article but i dont know WHAT exactly it wants me to
delete. All i see is one file named "(Default)". I'm a
little leary about just deleting stuff, cos i searched
for that before i deleted it, and the only file in the
computer with that name is related to a game I have
installed on here. Can anyone clear this confusion up for
me?

Its Windows XP Professional. If it matters, i used the
same installation disc on the family computer (with a
second -legal-product key) and it works just fine.

It matters. While its absence doesn't always mean the fix doesn't apply,
you'll see that IE6/WinXP is not listed in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316537#appliesto.

One more bit of info, please. Copy/paste the following line into an IE
Addressbar, click on GO, then copy/paste the results into your reply:

javascript:navigator.appMinorVersion

Note: Such problems are most often caused either by not having all Windows
Updates installed or by malware on your system.
