OK, I have two (Some coworkers have several others) servers that no longer
function properly after installing the Blaster Worm Hotfix (MS-026) from MS
and I'm not very happy about it. This hotfix, once installed, blocks port
135 and stops the worm. That's good, but it also cause all remote network
connectivity (shared directories, exchange, etc. over the internet) from
functioning and that's bad. Very bad! Even worse, even if the hotfix is
removed, the problem still exists!!!
I have several other servers that were updated using the Windows Update
method (patch) for the same problem that do not exhibit this problem. They
are also running SP4.
I need a solution to resolve this issue. As do others. VPN is not a viable
option as the overhead associated with VPN from an Outlook client just isn't
usable. So any suggestions out there!
