Hi
I live in Japan and use a japanese verison of XP. I can get around it ok, but when im doing windows update i would like to know more about what im installing. Of course i can look at the worldwide update sites, but its a pain to check out the details on the english site and then go back to find the same update and install rom the japnese site. can i install from any of these sites or will it cause problems with the japanese OS?.
Appreciate any comment

Updates are language specific: match the language for the patch and the
operating system.

What you might want to do is subscribe to the Security Bulletins for
Windows XP. You would receive email copies of new bulletins posted on the
Microsoft website.

When you go to Windows update and click on the link for more information,
there is usually an "MS=XXXX" number in the description. That number could
be matched up with your email bulletin. Don't know if correlating between
the update site and your emails would be any faster or more convenient than
what you're doing now but it is an alternative.

You will find a link to subscribe to the email service on this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/security/default.mspx

NOTE: You will *not* receive attachments with this email. If you decide to
subscribe to this service, you may want to check out this page too:
