Busy weekend. I'm sure I left some things out. :-)

I could use web space for a handful of small "rareware" programs.

Why was XnView removed

Why did you remove those? I use Zoom Player to watch movies, Pegasus to
read my e-mail, InfranView to watch pictures and XNView because it adds
support for few file formats I need. Why did you remove them?

Nice program, but too many features to be called a picture viewer. Not a
good enough photo editor to compete with PhotoPlus or Orien's Enhancer.
Did I mention it's buggy? :-)

Bob

Its best thumbnail viewer there .... and manage photo files

I want a unique site that lists only 1 program in each category. Some of
the programs you mention are nearly a toss-up, and were very hard to cut. So
I know where you're coming from.

I like ZoomPlayer, but it's buggy. Try Media Player Classic. You'll like it.

Someone needs to author a pure movie player. No MP3's, no WAV's, no
streaming audio. Just a clean-screen movie viewer with all commands and
functions on a context menu.

Pegasus...Too big, excessively busy GUI, menus running amok. It's an old
favorite and a solid program, but I had to choose.

IrfanView and XN View try to do everything in the world, and I have no
classification for them. My choice, SlowView, is a tad better at pure
picture viewing. I wish someone would author a small, pure, blazing fast
picture viewer. None exist at this time.

I think Windows Explorer is the best thumbnail viewer and file manager. A
picture viewer should only view pictures at lightning speed. ACDSee Classic
is the best example I can think of, but it still has a silly thumbnail
viewer. Why do developers think they must re-invent Windows Explorer?

Bob, ACDSee isn't freeware, however. As for XnView, if one spends some
time configuring the program, it can be as good a photo browser if not
better than Irfanview. JMHO.

Do you have Winkey in your list? It creates shortcuts using the
Windows Key, as well as coming with a number of its own built in. I
used it with Win98 and now with XP.

Not sure if this would do/not do all you ask, but 1337 player is pretty
nice. Small (186KB), simple, fast, stable.

Btw, how much web space would help you out for your rareware?

It's on my "To Do" list. Thanks!

What is the genre of Winkey? Keyboard Utility? Macro Tool?

Winkey creates keyboard shortcuts. Here's a download area with the
publisher's description as follows:

Open your favorite applications, folders, and Web pages instantly with
Windows key shortcuts that you create. This shell extension allows you
to create keyboard shortcuts using the Windows key. You can use up to
200 different key combinations in addition to the ten built-in links.

So really, its the worlds best freeware - for you. What you like and
want is not to everyone elses liking.
Maybe you should change the page name to - My Favourite Freeware.

Windows Explorer puts these huge thumbs.db files.. and you have to keep
on changing the setting to views as thumbnails .. you cant change the
size of thumbnails or the size of the preview ...

XnView has so many features and options to customize to your liking
which is just amazing for a freeware program.

XnView rules your site SUCKS

Thumbs.db are tiny. 32k to be exact.

I agree it is an excellent freeware program. Unfortunately, there can be
only 1 best picture viewer, and I don't believe XNView is it. Is there
another category I can put it in?

Uh...wait a minute! :-O

Doesn't EVERY web page have the very best content the author can find? Does
anyone intentionally list inferior software? Do we take a poll on
everything, or do we use our judgment? Do we want 100,000 freeware sites
named "My Favorite Freeware"?

My judgment is not perfect. Just today someone recommend an E-mail program
that bumped off my previous favorite. Try some of the software. I think
you'll like my judgment for the most part.

Bob

I see you have GTU listed on your page. You might want to remove it or
put up a disclaimer. Development of GTU stopped a couple of years ago
and there are no plans to resume development. It's not compatible with
Detonator drivers 29.60 or newer. It sorta-kinda works (for me) with
later drivers, but not very well. See
<http://www.guru3d.com/geforcetweakutility/>.

Yea, as you can see from the rating, I'm not crazy about GTU. As time
allows, I'll search for a better program.

I used to have a site called "Tiger's Best Freeware" and it was exactly
what you have...my *personal* favorites. BTW, you *really* think
Phoenix is the best email client? Tried it, but Foxmail, Pegasus,
Calypso, and even Mozilla mail beat it...here's the key...IMO :)

Unfortunately, Mozilla mail isn't a separate program. I've yet to find
an email program that would rate better than a 6 on your scale. I'd
give Phoenix a 5...but it looks promising. I'm looking forward to
further development :)
