Workstations lose connection to server in the morning

I am having a problem with a Windows 2000 network (XP Workstations).
This network has been in place for over a year and was working fine.
The client switched to a DSL modem and Covad installed a BroadXent
combo modem/router and ever since then our workstations lose
connectivity to the network. It seems to happen mostly in the morning
when the people come in (they leave their workstations logged in over
night -- it's a small simple office) and they have to log out and log
in all over again.

The obvious candidate seems to relate to the modem/router but I can't
find anything that could relate to this.

1) I checked DHCP and extended the licenses to 80 days.

2) There no time limits on the accounts

3) I can ping the workstations from the server but cannot connect to
them using RealVNC (my remote control program)

4) DHCP is coming from the Router

5) No OS changes that I know of but they did add two workstations to
the network.

Any ideas? This has been going on for a little while and my client is
getting very concerned...
 
Try setting up DHCP on a Windows Server instead of using a network device.

And what exactly do you mean by "lose connection to server in the morning"?
That can mean a lot of things! Are the computer accounts no longer valid so
that you have to join the computers to the domain again? Are you seeing the
red X through the mapped network drives? Simply clicking on the mapped
network drives usually restores the 'connection'.
