We have a Windows 2000 server and 15 workstations. I
moved a W2K workstation from one office to another, and
now it will not connect to the Network. I eliminated
cabling, tried a new NIC card, and still get a
message "error in reconnecting to the network, connection
is in use". The adaptor "says" it is working. Any ideas
of what else to try?

sounds like a connection problem. did you test the cable
between the outlet and the patch panel in the wiring
closet? if you have a fox and hound or something like a
Fluke tester it will give you this info. is that
particular drop connected to the switch? is that
particular port on the switch working? check the
particular port that drop is connected to, are the link
lights on? maybe select another port to see if that is the
problem. is the patch cable from the patch panel to the
switch working? if ther is another drop in that office try
plugging into that one and see if you get any connectivity.
chances are that if it is the stretch of cable between the
outlet and the patch panel its at the outlet and taking a
punchdown tool reseat the wires into the outlet usually
takes care of the problem.
