My laptop takes about 3 minutes to boot up unless i turn workstation services
off. Takes 30 seconds then.

During boot up time, the Norton antivirus icon in the tray has a yellow
exclamation mark over it. and the clock does not run.
any help would be appreciated on how to get the thing to work like it did
when i got it

I take it you are booting into a network. (thus the workstaion service)
Some things that will cause our delay:
A large roaming or corrupt profile trying to load from a server. (when you
don't have the Workstaion service running it will just use your local profile)
A Mapped drive it can't locate.
Or Norton itself can be the problem.
I would rule out Norton first then it should be easy to find the problem.

Might try removing norton AV, rebooting, and see what happens. Then
reinstall it and see what happens. If no joy with nortons AV, use a free
AV program.
