I'm new to XP and am trying to set up another user to test some of my
software. When I try to go to the "Member of" tab, I get a message
that says "Workstation station service has not been started". I'm
logged in as the administrator. How am I supposed to start the
workstation service?

Thanks. Also, can anyone suggest a good book that discusses XP
Professional? I need to learn a lot more than I know now.

You can set up an new user when you go to Control Panel >users.

The best book on XP I´ve ever found is "Windows XP Inside Out". It covers
almost every function of WinXP HE and Pro. I can recommend it.

Best regards

Thanks. I've ordered the book.

Can you tell me why I'd get the "Workstation service has not been
started" message? How would I start it? I've set up a user for
testing, but would like to play with various restrictions.

Run services.msc from Start Menu ---> Run. You should set the workstation
service startup to "automatic." You will probably also want the server
service and the computer browser service.

After setting it to automatic, it will start up automatically (duh) next
time you boot up. But you can manually Start them from this screen too,
instead of rebooting.
