I am having an issue where if you look at the Network
settings on some clients they report their name to be
hostname.subdomain.parentdomain.com however if you try to
ping hostname.subdomain.parentdomain.com it won't resolve
but if you ping hostname.parentdomain.com it resolves
fine. Under machine properties in ADUC it reports the
hostname to be hostname.subdomain.parentdomain.com but
you can't manage it because the resolution is wrong. All
Clients are DHCP and all but maybe 12 work just fine and
are configured the same way. Any ideas would help allot.
Thanks in advance

How is option 015 setup in DHCP? The parent domain maybe?
Are the clients configured to register in DNS? (Win2k and later)
If DHCP is registering for the clients and the clients are not configured to
register in DNS only the zone for the name in option 015 is updated.
