What is the best way to prevent people from editing the
worksheet but still allowing them to sort and filter? I
would prefer not to use VBA since I don't know how.
Thanks!

Probably best to use the Tool menu ..

Select the cells you are interested in protecting, Select Format then Cells. Select the Protection tab. Select the Lock option to lock the cells. Close the dialog box

Select Tools then select Protection then Protect Sheet

Enter a password if you want - its optional. Before pressing enter, scroll down the list and check off those things you want a person to be able to do

Make a note of the password though so you can unprotect it

If you unprotect the sheet then anyone can edit the contents.

Thing is, I still want to be able to Sort the worksheet
without unprotecting it. There isn't any point in
protecting the sheet if I send everyone the password.

Is there a way to prevent people from making changes to
the data inside the cells while still allowing them to
manipulate the cell?

If you use Excel XP, when you go to Tools|Protection|
Protect Sheet, you can check what you want the users
to be able to do. Such as SORT.
