Use a universal file format when you save a file that you
will email to others. RTF [Rich Text] is pretty well
universally available as an option in the [file/save as]
menu and all other users should be able to open and edit
such rtf files.
Each "application" such as MS WORD, Corel WordPerfect, MS
WORKS and all other programs use different coding to save
the file, without the proper program or a file converter you
can't open the file directly from your email by double click
the file.
But you will find that your word processor DOES include
converters [you may need to download them] that will open
the file from within the word processor. Save the
attachment to the hard drive where you can find it again.
Then open your word processor and use the OPEN menu and
browse to the file. When you select it to open, the
computer will know which program to use because you selected
the application. IF the converter is present you will
likely see a popup window saying the file is being opened,
telling you the base format. It will also likely offer to
save the file in your default format.
| If I attach a file from word processor other people can't
| open in word. I also can't save a file and open it on
| another computer.
