Works Suite 99

Guest

I have several applications running in Works Suite 99 under Windows 98SE
operating system. I am considering new PC with Windows XP Pro. WIll my old
works suite still run under the new operating system? I know it's timely for
me to consider ourchasing later Office Suite, but all my data is currently in
the 99 system.
Thanks for your help.

Depends on the type of license on the Works Suite. If it came with the
computer it might be an OEM license that can't legally be transfered to
a new computer system (and might not install).

Have you checked to see if the OpenOffice.com suite can import your files?

Thanx Robert.....I will check to see if that works. It's not an OEM version
either.

Hi,

It may not relate to your question directly, but I'd suggest you to wait for
just a few months (no more than another year) when the new OS (Vista) and
Office (2007) will be released, along with some new hardware devices.

This way, you could have a new system lasting for much longer than if you're
buying a system soon would be replaced.

Hope this helps.

xp pro sp2
The only part of the works suite I use is the money 99 (which works fine)
....most new computer will have the works 7 or 8 version already installed
which will run all your data from the 99 suite

Thats not related to the question AT ALL, and a lame one at that.

It will be another year probably before Vista is released. IMO, Vista
will be as much of a success as Windows Millenium was.

The OP is using Windows98 still...nothing wrong with that, other than
some s/w requires an NT based OS.

So what would make you think that if a new PC was purchased THIS month it
would need to be replaced sooner ?

I don't see any problem for using Win 98SE at all.

In fact, "I am considering new PC with Windows XP Pro." is what OP said and
that's why I'd suggested.

Anyone can purchase anything at anytime, what I suggested is based on
personal evaluation of return on investment.

Based on the fact that he/she is still using Win 98 and Works 99, anyone
with a common sense can safely assume that he/she tends to use the system
for another 5-6 years.

In fact, what's wrong for waiting another year since he/she has been waiting
for so long already?

You're the one having a big problem!

Nothing is wrong with waiting _another_ year, except if the only reason to
wait now is because of all the propaganda for Vista, I say, why bother.

So the un-answered question is......

(Which was what you stated as the reasoning.)

Works Suite 99 will run okay under Windows XP, although some of the
components are quite dated.

If you upgrade to the new Works Suite 2006 you should be able to
import your data files into the new version.

Good luck

May or may not work. MS Works has historically required upgrades when
putting it on a new platform.
