Works document

My friend has created a leaflet to advertise his work which he wants to have
printed off by outside printing firm. He has produced the text and imported
some photos from his My Pictures. He has then tried to Email the leaflet to
the printers and to myself. The printers say they are unable to open the
attachment, and when I try to open his attachment on my computer, my Works
program opens but the page is covered with squares and Y,s. I am using an old
version 3. Is it not possible to Email text and photos from a works document?
Any help appreciated.

You need to find out what program the printers use (example Word),
Have your friend open the file, go to save as and change the extension
to something that is supported by the printers. Have your Friend call
the printers with all of the options (the extensions) visiable and have
the printers open a new doc and save as it and view their extensions,
and pick one this matches. You may have to try several of them before
it works.

It could be, but I am sure you can find an extension that will match
his verson. Just lookin at my MS word XP, there are 21 ways I can save
the file. 2 of the ways are Works 2000 or Works 4.0 - One of them may
work on yours, just find a common file type, or have him save the file
several different times with different extensions and see if any work
for you.

It's been quite a while since I used Works [note: there are Works specific
newsgroups, you can probably find better answers there.] Is the problem at
all involved in the way he put the objects into the Works document? Might
they be linked rather than embedded? If an object is linked to a file on
his computer, I'm not sure what happens when you try to display that
document on your own (perhaps placeholders), but it's likely you don't
have that picture file on your path so I'm not sure how your computer
could display it. I certainly agree about finding out what format the
printer requires as the best way to handle that part. Someone more
knowledgeable than me may have a better suggestion about how the document
can be displayed at a remote location.
