Why does the drop down menu say: Select All "not currently used" in my Office
Word 2003 styles and formatting, formatting of selected text? Also, the
Select All button is greyed out. Is there something I can do to fix this?

Hi Michael

it might be an idea to post this question in a word newsgroup such as
microsoft.public.word.newusers

however, basically in Word 2003 you have the option of having Word keep
track of your formatting of a document .. what will happen with this option
switched on is if you use a style (e.g. heading 1) and for some reason make
1 of your heading 1 paragraphs green - Word will create a new style for you
called something like Heading 1 + Green.

to avoid this happening this "keep track of formatting" option is often
turned off by users. However, the downside to turning off the option is the
behaviour you are seeing with the "select all" option.

to change the setting for "keep track of formatting" go to tools / options
and the edit tab ... the check box is there on the left.

Hope this helps
Cheers

Julie - how extremely helpful. Many thanks. This is the first time I have
ever posted a question! Still a bit miffed that I could'nt find out the
answer from Word Help.
