working offline message when closing word docs

Hello,
I am having a problem with a WinXP Pro laptop. It has
offline folders enabled with one network folder available
offline. All Win updates have been installed.

When I am connected to the network and working online, if
I open, edit, save, and close a document that is part of
the synced network folder, a message pops up that tells me
I am now working offline (even though I am still connected
to the network).
This only happens when I close the document, but not if I
close Word itself.

Once I am offline, I can not regain online status without
a restart.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
 
Correction. the problem is also happening when I close
Word application, not only when I close a Doc. Thanks
