I hav a portable computer behind a corporate firewall
using a static IP adress. I can connect to the network and
other computers and it work great. But when I try to ping
the computer from behinf the firewall it does not return
the pinge, it can ping itself, the router, and every other
machine ia was using to test.
Any ideas how i can make it visible on the network
ps. I have no local firewall on my machine,I disabled
antivirus for the test, and I use windows 2000.

thaks

Try pinging by IP address also if you have not tried that and if that does not work
boot the computer into safe mode with networking and try again. If it works in safe
mode with networking there is a startup application/service that is causing the ping
failure. Of course verify tcp/ip configuration via ipconfig /all to make sure that
the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway are correct. Tracert may also be
worth a try if you are trying to ping outside your local network. --- Steve

Do you have any type of VPN software installed? Some VPN software actualyl
installs firewall type software and that may be affecting it. My on personal
computer will ping but will not tracert unless I go into network propeties
and uncheck a net firewall service that my vpn installed and requires when
active.

Thanks, The machine pings fine under safe mode with
networking. Now is there a wway to load windows one driver
at a time so I can check where the problem is [I wish win
3.1 is still running i could control every aspect of
windows from the commnad line!!!]

Thanks
I will try that, I forgot I had a copy { I am already
comparing ntbtlg.txt under the different configurations]
