Working in a DOS application via XP

I have an old DOS application that I access from my F:\ drive using the Run box in Windows XP. The DOS app works fine but it is displayed in a 4"x7" window that makes it hard to read. I can't seem to enlarge the box. Is there some way that I can can get my DOS app to operate in a full screen mode, or at least enlarge the Window it's in?

Would it help if I closed Windows XP completely to use the DOS app? If so, how would I leave Windows XP and get to the DOS prompt? I don't see how to do it in XP.
