I have a computer lab (windows 98, access 2000) where I'm
getting an error message that says can't change to
working directory when I try to open any access database
which is on a mapped drive on our server. I can open any
other documents such as word or excel from the same
mapped drive. Only half of the computers in the lab have
this problem and they are exactly the same setup. Thanks
in advance.

I'm not sure this will be of any help with your network setup, but i was
getting the same error on my local access databases ("Can't change to
working directory 'C:\<path>'") after manipulating some directory
structures on my harddrive. Apparently my default database directory was
set to one of the dir's that i had changed, so every time i opened a
database regardless of its location, it would tell me it couldn't change
to the working directory (because that directory no longer existed after
i changed the structure).

I would open a database on a machine where you don't have any
problems... then in Access go to Tools>Options>General tab and see what
path it is using for the default database folder (working folder). Then
make sure that the machines that are getting the error are using the
same dir as those that work fine.
