Workign with CSV files

I having a problem working with CSV files in Excel. I go by the "Save
Early, Save Often" mantra, but Excel is getting in the way. Whenever I
try to "Save" the file, excel reverts to the "Save As" function and I
have to click OK again.

Is there any way to convince Excel to do a real "Save" and not revert
to "Save As".

Version is Excel 97 SR-2

How about saving as an XLS file on the first save. Then you shouldn't get the message any more.
When you are finished working with the file, Save As back to CSV format and delete the XLS file.

I was hoping -not- to do that :-)

The CSV file is used to import new products into Peachtree Accounting
software. I could save it as an xls file, but then I have two copies
of a file when I only want one. I think that they are about equal
evils (my original problem and this solution).

I could understand if Excel would ask you to save it as an XLS file
once, under the assumption that you want to take a legacy CSV file and
convert it to Excel. But it asks you -every- time you try to save
changes.

I thought that maybe there was a switch in pref's that I was unaware
of that could cure the constant "save as" dialogs.
 
If you keep your fingers on the keyboard, just hit ctrl-s, enter.

I think that would even be faster than having a macro that saves the .csv file.
