I've got three computers on a home LAN connected through a Netgear MR814. Two wired using Win98, the third is a laptop running XP Home and connected through wireless. All three of these PCs work fine together and are visible to each other in the Network neighborhood

I've recently added a 4th computer (another desktop hard wired to the router) running XP Home, and I'm having a problem connecting it to the other three. They all have the same workgroup name (@HOME) but the last PC is not visible to the first three, and I get a fault message on the new PC when I try to view the other computers in the workgroup. There is a long pause then an error which says "@HOME not accesible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of the servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

I'm not aware that I've put any kind of security on a server which would deny access. I've checked the router setup and I can see the new computer name under "attached devices" and I can reach the internet.

Any ideas? I'm at a loss.......

first of all, check that you don't have any firewalls
active - either the built in one in XP or any 3rd party
software. This is a very common cause in networking
problems and can give some unusual results: eg you can
ping one way but not the other etc
remove the firewalls and see if this helps. (If you are
using a LAN/router/hub, the built in firewall should be
turned off anyway - it's only for a direct internet
connection). If it then works, you will need to configure
all firewalls to allow traffic between all LAN addresses

If you still have problems, have a trawl through this
newsgroup - it's a very common subject for postings, and
there will be lots of different tips / links to articles
etc
