Is it possible to have two workgroups on the same
computer at the same time? I attempted to delete the old
group (by changing to a new workgroup) (via Control
Panel/System/etc.) but when I completed and rebooted now
both groups are enumerated in the Network Places/Entire
Network/Microsoft Windows Network tree.

A Windows network can have any number of workgroups, and they should
all appear in the place that you indicated.

If no computers belong to a workgroup, the workgroup will
automatically disappear after a time. There's no way to explicitly
delete it.
