I have set-up a laptop to dial-up a computer on a LAN and
share resources on that LAN. All OS's W2k SP4. Protocols
are NetBEUI & TCP/IP w/ fixed IP addresses. (10.0.0.XXX /
subnet mask 255.255.255.0). I have done this many times
before with no problem. This computer will connect to the
server. If I set-up a "network place"
(\\servername\sharename) I can access shares. However,
network neighborhood will not show the remote server or
network. Error message - workgroup is not accessible. The
list of servers for this network is not currently
available. If I dial in the other direction to the laptop,
all works well. I can't seem to get the problem laptop to
be the "master browser" whether on dial-up or local LAN
connection. All services and set-up are the same on both
machines. NetBIOS over TCP is enabled. Checked Registry
for Browser parameters. Both are set the same
(IsDomainMaster=False) (MaintainServerList=Auto). I have a
HOSTS file listing of computername -> IP address. What is
preventing normal access for this dial-up connection?
