when I set up my home network I created a workgroup id of ME, when I added
some Networked Attached Storage they defaulted to workgroup id WORKGROUP and
now I never know if I can get access to the NAS
should the NAS have been assigned to workgroup ME?

Hi
NAS is an independent device and comes with its own Default setting that has
to be configured to match your Network.
Usually its comes with a utility that let you configure it to your Network.
Or you might be able to access the menus via its web like system by entering
the device IP into the Browser address bar.
Read the NAS' manual, the info should be there.

Assigning all of the computers and devices to the same workgroup makes
networking a little easier, but it isn't necessary. Windows
networking supports multiple workgroups, and a computer/device in any
workgroup can access a computer/device in any workgroup.

If the NAS device's shared folders don't automatically appear in My
Network Places, click "Add a network place" and add them.
