Workgroup Folder Sharing

I have two computers, both on the same workgroup. One is an XP pro SP2, the
other is W2k SP4. I have a folder on the XP computer called A1 and shared
out as A1, and I want the W2k computer to browse this folder when user U2 is
logged on the W2k computer.

The problem is, I don't want user U2 to be able to log onto the XP computer.
It seems like when using workgroup security, I have to create user U2 on the
XP computer with the same username and password as what is being used on the
w2k computer, which means the user can then log onto the XP computer.

I have tried creating a group on both computers called bb7, giving bb7 full
control of folder A1, and putting user U2 in group bb7 on the w2k computer,
but I get access denied when trying to map to the folder.

Any suggestions?

Click Start, Run and enter GPEDIT.MSC Go to:

Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies, Security Options

In the right pane look for Network Access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users

You can now assign Everyone permissions to the shared folder (the Everyone group automatically has read access), and it should be accessible to the other computer. If you want to control it down to the user level, then you'll need to create an account on the XP machine. However, you can also deny this account the right to log on locally.
