Workgroup file (.mdw)

Okay, so I was working on my database today, and added
security features (the long way, not on the wizard). I
created the .mdw file, joined myself to it and made a
couple accounts to make sure it was working (trying each
out in turn). Everything was fine. Then, I decided to
see what happened if I moved the .mdw file to a different
location (since the work I'm doing now will eventually be
uploaded to a shared drive). According to access help, if
this occurs, I should get an error message and the db
shouldn't open. However, when I actually did it, nothing
happened at all, except that my db didn't require a logon
and was totally open... Any thoughts? This seems to be a
remarkably silly way to bypass security... This is Access
2002 using 2000 file format for the db, and I'm on windows
2k.

Now I'm reading a lot of the other posts here, and
something I don't get is... as follows. If I want to
guarantee that my .mdw file will be used for this db, I
have to make a shortcut and path and all that. How the
hell is that even remotely secure? If any user who wants
to (and comes on these forums) can just open the database
directly and use the system.mdw??

I've heard mention of .mde files... are they more secure?
If so, how do I make one?

Read the Security FAQ at
http://support.microsoft.com/support/access/content/secfaq ..asp closely
several times, and make sure you follow each step. (Do it on a copy of the
database, in case you goof and have to start over!)

Since one of the steps involves removing the Admin ID from the Admins group,
unless they use the correct MDW file, they shouldn't get any access that
way.
I'll do that, thanks!!
