Hi,

I have 2 questions (sort of re-asking from an earlier post) regarding
network security that may or may not have an easy answer.

1. If you have a company network domain (win2000/XP) and you link 2 computer
together on the physical network (cable/switches) in a workgroup (to create
a separate network) without any company network domain privileges are you
putting the company domain at risk (security/virus)

2. If instead you link 2 computers together on their own physical network
(cable) and workgroup in physical proximity to the company network domain
(without any company domain privileges) are you putting the company network
domain at risk (security/virus) byway of a malicious user patch cabling back
into the company domain (anymore than a malicious user with his own laptop).

I have researched these 2 specific questions and have not found the answer.

Thanks

That depends on whether or not you secure the computers concerned. If you
don't secure them, install antivirus, patches, etc, then they can become a
breeding place / base for worms and suchlike inside your firewall.

I'm not quite sure what you mean here. Are you talking about a seperate
physical network for the two computers, which gets plugged back into the
main network by someone? If so, the answer is the same as it was for your
first question.
