Jeff

I have been trying numerous solutions to the problem described as follows:

On Windows XP Pro computer when I open a Network Neighborhood window, I see
my computer and four other computers in my workgroup. The four others are
two Windows 98 and two Windows ME.

When I try to open my Win XP Pro computer from the workgroup window, it
opens no problem. When I try to open one of the other four computers I get
the following message-
\\Computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out
if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found.

When I go to any of the other four computers and open a Network Neighborhood
window, I see only the four non Windows XP computers (which includes itself
as well). I can open any of these computers and access their folders.

I have disabled the WinXP firewall in ICS as well as the Norton Internet
Security firewall on the XP machine. I have also ensured that the WINS
setting on the LAN adapter TCP/IP setup uses Enable NetBIOS TCP/IP. I also
have verified and tried stopping and restarting the Computer Browser on the
WinXP Pro computer like the KB article for this problem suggest.

The bottom line is I still can't access the network computers and I used to
be able to do for about 6 months now until just the other day. Yes, I also
have tried System Restore to an earlier date with no change in this problem.
HELP???????

Hello Jeff...
You must use as user account with the same password on all the computers on
your network.
So, if your Windows XP user name is "UserX" and the password is "PassX" so
you should use the same usaer name and passwords on the other computers.
Otherwise, you can create new user accounts on your Windows XP with the same
user names and passwords of the other computers that you have in your
network.

Thanks for the quick response. However, I have already confirmed this fix
does not help. This network was working and then it the connection dropped
and I have never been able to get it to work again. No changes were being
made at the time it dropped either.

Well... I have the same problem now.
Please tell me how to fix it when you know. lol

Do you really have this problem or are you kidding? I suspect it may have
been an "automatic" upgrade by Microsoft but I can't confirm since it did
not log in the windows update file.

TCP/IP. Yes,

You aren't the only ones. Look through this file and you
will see variations but pretty much the same problem. And
I have the problem too.
