How do I remote into my home PC from my work PC? I have a
WinXP Pro SP2 computer at home. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G
Router via Cable/Modem. The ISP says that they do not have
any firewalls enabled. I've disabled the firewall on my
router and enabled remote management on the router. I want
to remote into my computer from work. No literature exists
on the Linksys site. I can remote into my router (ie, router
config page) but can't get past my router to my home
computers.
First off, having remote management enabled on your router will
not impact your ability to access your home computer through
Remote Desktop. The only reason to have it turned on would be
if you needed to change the configuration while you were at
work. If you decide to leave it enabled, make sure you change
the user name and password from the default settings. You
should also be able to configure your routers firewall to allow
remote desktop traffic to pass.
In order to access your home computer you have to set up Port
Forwarding on the router configuration interface to send all
traffic on TCP port 3389 to the private IP address of your home
computer. Also, unless your ISP has assigned a static IP
address for your account, it would be a good idea to install
and run a dynamic DNS service on your home computer.
Take a look here for information on setting up port forwarding
on a Linksys router.

Finally, keep in mind that the account you use to access your
home computer must have a password.
Good luck
