Does anybody know where to find the update of Wordtabs to ver 3.30.
Or could tell me what it does?

The link in earlier PL pages no longer works, and google knows nothing
about that filename.

I already have version 3.29, and I found a riched20.dll ver2 which works
with Wordtabs.

I just wonder what that update was about, if it updated ver 3.29 so it
could use a corrected later version of riched20 or something like that.
Or maybe it contained riched20.dll ver 2 so the user wouldn't have to find
it by himself like I did.

Skip Bremer wrote very good programs, to bad he didn't continue developing
them. Or publish the source code and make them open source.

Thanks.

I thought I might have downloaded the 3.30 from SOS, but even if so, I
cannot find it there now. I have archived two different things. One is
an installation package. Not worth bothering with IMO.

Another is distr containing only the v3.3 exectuable. You copy the exec
to your Wordtabs directory. So using this presumes you already have the
dictionary files, the readmes, and a local v2 of riched20.dll. I've just
now uploaded it.

http://www.mailandfiles.com/users/omega/wt330upd.zip !Temporary location

[wt330upd.zip (568,705) contents:]

WordTabs.exe 566,784 09-03-99
WordTabs.html 41,038 09-03-99

If you wonder: the lack of compression in the zip is because the executable
was already compressed (ASPacked). Also, about the zip name. I think it
will not help for an inet search. It might not have been the original name
(I might have invented it).

[...]

Well, none of the above. And like the other versions, no help to even have
v4 of riched20. The "secret startup switch" remains today a secret known
to perhaps only one man on earth. On the other hand, at least the program
functions well, with no problems, so long as it had v 2 of the dll in its
directory.

For the difference between v3.29 vs v3.30, it's listed in Wordtabs.html.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

History of changes

3.30

o File|Find is so popular that it has been improved even more ...
o The Font color for Non-RTF files in the Tools|Options dialog ...
o The File|Send (to MAPI email clients) commands have been reactivated ...
o Added Help|Backup WordTabs Registry ...
o Added a View|Clipboard command ...
o The Paragraph|Paragraph dialog now increments/decrements by 6 points ...
o Fixed the system RTF icons ...
o Fixed another situation that could prevent the saving of certain newly
created files ...
o Removed the Splash screen ...

WordTabs.exe 566,784 09-03-99
WordTabs.html 41,038 09-03-99

That should have read 1999-09-03, to indicate September. I'd used a DOS dir,
which gave me the above screwy sequence. Is this anything I can change, like
with an environmental SET in my w98 autoexec ? Just curious.

Where did you get riched20.dll ver 2?

Agreed, more or less. I haven't found a simple and clean HTML editor to
match it yet.

Subject: Wordtabs 3.30 update?

I wish!

Hi, J44xm. I read your message forwards, backwards, sideways, and ROT13'd.
Yet still I can only come up with one theory. Do you want the 3.30 version
of the Wordtabs executable? I haven't yet removed it from my webspace. Yet
you will also want the v3.29 dictionary and documentation files. Plus a
ver2 copy of riched20.dll. Don't know what you have or need there.

Sorry for the miscommunication. I was just implying that an upgrade from
3.30 (i.e., to 3.31 or 3.4) would be nice to have. No needs on my part!

WordTabs is a great replacement to Notepad and Wordpad! I like WordTabs
much better than EditPad etc since WordTabs is complete with a SpellChecker.
It is TRUE freeware. No features are crippled on purpose trying to entice
you in buying some payware or shareware.

IMHO as a Notepad replacement, Wordtabs cannot be beat!

Greets, J44xm, thanks for clarifying. Unfortunately, it looks that
we're out of luck forevermore [*] on that one. The Wordtabs we have
is the last of its line.

from a mailing list or usenet discusion, tho' didn't learn much of the
story). Subsequently, he quit off writing for the MSFT platform. In a
related thread here earlier, there was reference to his having gone to
such measures as to destroy his source code. :(
