Is there a stable download link for WordTabs 3.30? I can't find a single
one. (I'm pretty shocked no one's tried to create a replacement for
WordTabs yet -- a small, simple, powerful RTF editor.)

I can't see one. what does 3.30 offer over 3.25?

Is this true? It might be an idea to repost asking for recommendations
for a 'small, simple, powerful, RTF editor'

Just a thought :-)

Since nobody asked, I won't say anything about Atlantis Nova. :)

Sadly, none. That's been a problem for several years. From the
better-than-nothin' department, here's an /unstable/ download:

http://omega5.port5.com/files/2004/wordtabs/wt330.zip

The file above is a zipped no-install. Right in Wordtabs menu itself,
it has all one needs for install-uninstall. It will create startmenu/
desktop lnks to itself on command. It will back up its reg key; and
even delete it from registy, if asked.

That zip contains the special richedit version which Wordtabs wants.
The richedit dll is not a standard redistributable. I cannot see a
clear answer on whether it is explicitly prohibited to redistribute
it; (developers seem themselves to be indecisive about the answer to
that question). If the msft landsharks want to attempt to hunt me down
from the Port5 account, well, up to them how they want to waste their
time. :)

I am very fond of WordTabs. Cryptedit is quite good, too. But these
two have some non-overlapping strengths. For instance, the WordTabs
disk-find feature, that served me very well recently in a large project.
I think I might tell that story later on, if I manage to assemble my
props (screesnshots).

[edit]
It will back up its reg key; and even delete it from registy, if asked.

Just saw that it does not purport to delete its reg key completely. So a
full uninstall would mean doing that oneself (naturally following having
released any associations one might have asked it to take).

The history file that comes with v330 is here:
http://omega5.port5.com/files/2004/wordtabs/WordTabs.html

I'm pasting excerpts below. This excerpts list, it's based basically
on my excluding most bugfix items. Some of the fixes are important,
but I view them as boring to read unless one is an avid user of an
earlier version. (All right, so the following might be a boring read
too...unless you have gained membership into Our WordTabs FanClub.)

|--------------------<wordtabs history excerpts>------------------------
|
| 3.26
|
| Added Edit|Line|Line Break command (really a tag to tell you how to do
| it).
|
| 3.27
|
| Added a Start without word wrap option to the Options dialog. Now you
| can guarantee every file starts with word wrap off in case you use
| WordTabs almost strictly for system editing/programming.
|
| A new English dictionary now ships with WordTabs (standard smaller
| English version). It does a better job by not suggesting so many very
| short abbreviations for unknown words.
|
| 3.28
|
| Greatly improved the File|Find feature. You can now search for text in
| your disk files.
|
| When searching for text, I have found it to be faster than the Windows
| Explorer search. And when you close the Find Files dialog and bring it
| back up later during the same WordTabs session, your results will
| still be there!
|
| 3.29
|
| Fixed a bug that was preventing any additions to the Glossary.
|
| 3.30
|
| File|Find is so popular that it has been improved even more. There are
| more system folders that can be skipped when searching for files and
| it now has its own shortcut key (Alt+F2).
|
| The Font color for Non-RTF files in the Tools|Options dialog under the
| Fonts tab is no longer a default value. Rather it is an all-
| encompassing value for all non-RTF files, just like the Window color
| is and has been.
|
| The File|Send (to MAPI email clients) commands have been reactivated.
| The work great with one caveat noted in the Help - Known Issues
| section.
|
| Added Help|Backup WordTabs Registry (to help with sharing WordTabs on
| other machines) and Help|Clear WordTabs Settings (technical support
| tool).
|
| Added a View|Clipboard command to run the Windows Clipboard Viewer, if
| it has been installed.
|
| Removed the Splash screen--it wasn't worth much and it was slowing
| down the WordTabs load.
