Yea, but it'll cost you $$$ to get it - it's called Office. Or as we
'alternative' users like to call it - Whammy - because it takes your
money just as bad as a Whammy does on that gameshow.

Try OpenOffice - www.openoffice.org

It works with MS Office documents, spreadsheets and even presentations -
and best of all - IT'S FREE!

You might be surprised...

No. No Microsoft operating system has ever come with a word processor.
You can purchase MS Word separately from MS Office if you like.
OpenOffice is an excellent office suite and it is free. Get it at
www.openoffice.org.

I use open office and it is somewhat slow, but very compatible with MS.

It is pretty good, but very, very, slow.

Rebecca,

I have seen a lot of people make the mistake of thinking that the Word
installed on their PC is actually part of Windows and then wonder why it is
not there on a new PC. It is not part of Windows and, for many people
making that mistake, that is good news. That means, if your Windows XP had
word that actually you have a license for Microsoft Word already. You'll
just need the CDs from your Windows XP and the license key but it should be
fully transferrable from an old PC to a new PC.

No, as the other respondents confirm. And, an afterthought, EditPadLite
does not have a spell checker. EditPadPro does, but costs money.

However, type "free spellchecker" into the search bar at
http://google.com and you will see many options.

Rebecca: My new Dell laptop came with Vista installed along with Microsoft
Works. This contains a word processor complete with a spellchecker and
paragraph formatting/spacing etc. Check your program listings. -William

And then there was Wordpad and Notepad - both included with Window OSs.Which are not word processors -- the OP was looking for spell checking
and formatting features which are in word processors (not included in
Windows), distinct from text editors (included in Windows).

Compared to...Office? Because it's not tied to the OS, which is a GOOD
thing. I'll sacrifice speed for usability any day as long as it doesn't
take down the OS.
