How can one set Wordpad not to make backup files by default?

UltraEdit32 wil create backup files automatically.
It is *not* free, but it is a good editor.

Hi Pop:
Let me amend my question to ask about .rtf files. I have Word installed. I
checked my Options in Word. I don't have "Always create backup copy"
checked.
I can't figure out why Win XP insists on creating a *.bak file for each
..rtf file.
