Does Wordpad still exist in WinXP?

If not then is there a similar product I can use instead?

Thanks

Pete

PS - I want to read/write RTF files and swap them with friends but
I not want the risk of hidden macros in the documents by using MS
Word.

push "start" button >> run >>. type: "write.exe" (without the quotes) >>
push "run" button.

There you have a RTF editor that is the successor of Wordpad, called ....
Wordpad.
In the programs menu, it is located at
Start Menu : Programs : Accessories.

It's here:

C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe

Also, NoteTab Lite is an excellent freebie text editor.

1. Open XP's "Help and Support Center".
2. In the Search box type: WORDPAD , and hit enter.
3. Click on the tutorial titled: "Using WordPad".

If you set your macro security to high or medium you don't have a risk from
macros so long as you exercise restraint. (Word 2000+)

You should see it under Start -> Programs -> Accessories

I'm surprised no one mentioned that practically ANY modern word processor
(as opposed to Text editors - they are different animals) is capable of
using/creating rtf files. So no one has to worry about security breaches
from MS Office macros. OpenOffice comes to mind as a free alternative.

I've replaced wordpad with abiword.

I would have guessed you have personalized menus turned on and that is why
you couldn't see the program. Amazing to see how many people jumped on this
little question. I hope you don't feel like you're on the bottom of a dog
pile.
