Is there any way to download Word 97/2000 on XP? I tried
but keep getting an error report. Wordpad is not
sufficient for me. Thank you.

No. Those are commercial programs which you must purchase a
license for. Wherever you bought your OS is a good place to
look for these apps that you want.

There are no versions of Microsoft Word that are free downloads. Any site
that offers it as such is a pirate site. If you need a cheaper word
look-alike, try StarOffice (http://www.staroffice.com). There is a free one
but I can't remember what it is called. (I'm sure that someone will reply
with that one.)

If you mean "install" instead of "download" (which traditionally means
getting a copy from an interent source, yes it is possible to isntall
Word 97 or 2000. However, you need to procure a copy. Word 2003 is the
current version. You may wish to consider the free office productivity
suite at www.openoffice.org. It is indeed a "download" and will install
and work in XP.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

No. This is commercial software for sale, and can not be legally
downloaded for free anywhere

On the other hand, if you mean "install," not "download," either
Word 97 and 2000 can be installed under Windows XP.
