Each time I try to open word I get a VB text box that tells me that word
could not open with macros as the macros are disabled. Then when I click on
the help button, all it says is to select enable macros. How do I do this?

You need to establish what is generating the message. Best guess is that you
have an add-in which has been installed but which you do not have the macro
security set to allow to run. From tools > options > security > macro
security set the level to medium and on the trusted publishers tab set Word
to trust installed templates and add-ins.

You will still get a warning if you open a document that contains macro code
and then depending on where the document came from you can choose whether it
is wise to run the macros it contains or not.

Tools | Macro | Security. Set the security level to Medium, and you will be
given the option of enabling the macros. Note that this will not be an issue
for macros in templates stored in Word's user or workgroups templates folder
or the Word Startup folder if you check the box for "Trust all installed
templates and add-ins" on the Trusted Sources tab of this dialog.
