Hi out there,
I'm new to this and can't even type a letter because when
I go back to insert a few words or put missed spaces in
ect. the existing typing is gobbled up!
As usual so called "Help" is NO help. I mucked around in
Tools and couldn't find anything.
Please help me soon! Thank goodness for each other, as
Microsoft has a lot to answer for! I wish I'd got a
common-sense mac like my sister has.
Thanking you in advance, I try and help others, but only
knew one answer so far. Regards ...

Try posting in a Word newsgroup. (Word is a completely separate program to
Windows)

Try here:
microsoft.public.word.newusers

You are possibly in 'Overwrite' mode, whereby what you type overwrites what
is in front of the cursor.

To remedy the matter, press the 'Insert' key, this will put you into
'Insert' mode !

To change back to 'Overwrite' mode press 'Insert' key again, etc.,

Tools/ options and set the default modes as you want.

There are hundreds of possible ways to configure WORD,
everybody can and does set it to work the way they want
(eventually). It is a powerful and complicated program with
a learning curve. You'd have the same issue with WORD on a
Mac.

You are probably in "overtype" rather tham "insert mode".

Try pressing the "Insert key" to toggle between the two modes.

I'm always hitting the Insert key by mistage when I mean to go for the
Delete key.
