Word spell-checks in the wrong language

Hello everyone

I’ve used Word for some time but still have problems with it, so
please regard me as naïve.

I have some documents that spell-check ok and some where Word goes
into French as soon as I start spellchecking.

I have tried the usual answers in Microsoft and Word websites, to no
avail.

I believe there must be a flag in the problem documents, but don’t
know how to check or edit the flag.

Any suggestions gratefully received

I believe so. And the answer *always* comes down to the language applied to
the text.
