I created a document at my office in word format .doc and
e-mailed to my personal e-mail. Trying to open it with
Windows XP word processing program .wps and it does not
reconize the .doc format. Once I change it to open by
clicking (all files) or (word 97-2000)the layout is not
the same as my .doc version. How do I convert it to read
correctly in XP? Thank you.

There is no thing called "Windows XP word procesing program". I suspect
you are talking about Microsoft Works, which is part of an simple Office
suite you bought with your PC -- packaged by the vendor from whom you
bought the PC. It's not part of XP.

Microsfot Works is supposed to be open and display Word DOC files, but
the conversion is probably not as perfect as you expect. Frankly, if
you need to be the same as in your office copy of Word, buy and install
a copy of Word for your home PC.

Alternative, keep your Word doc's very simple so that Works can read
them more correctly.

If you want more newsgroup guidance, suggest you ask on the Works
newsgroup at microsoft.public.works.win.
