word printing

am lookinmg for a solution to my problem which is that I have just installed
word 97 onto my new computer and I find that it will not print out any
documents, also it will not let me save documents as a doc. document.
Any help would be gratefully accepted.

I am using Word 97 on both XP Home SP2 and XP Pro SP2 with no issues.
There was a thread a few weeks ago about install problems if you select
the HTML option while installing.

Did Word install without any error messages?

If you go to Control Panel | System, select the 'Hardware' tab and then
click on the 'Device Manage' button is your printer listed without a
red or yellow blob next to it?

Can you use the printer from any other programs?

Do you have a firewall working and have you scanned for malware
recently, just in case you have picked up a virus.
