Are you sure it's a WordPad document and not a Word document or some other
word processor?

Could be a Microsoft Word document. If you have Microsoft Word installed try
opening the file Word not Wordpad. If you don't have then you can try
Microsoft Word Viewer.

Exactly what is "a word pad document"? How do you know that's what it is?
Please tell us the name of this document, especially the extension (the part
of the name after the dot).
It's hard to be sure from the little you've told us, but my guess is that
you are trying to open a file in Wordpad, but it's a file that was created
by some other program and Wordpad can't handle it.
