I am trying to help someone that has been doing his business proposals in
Works. I'm not sure why, I assume because it was on his computer when he
bought it.
Anyway, he got Office Xp and is wanting to start using Word. Is there anyway
I can help him open the Works files and edit them with Word? So far I can't
find anything to open the files. They have a file extention of .wps.
Thanks for the help and have a good weekend.

Which version of Works? There are Works converters for most if not all Works
versions - they may not have been installed by default. Re-run Word setup
and add the missing converters. If you still have problems contact me via
the link on my web site.

As Graham says, Word may well be able to open the Works files. If not,
assuming he still has Works, he can save them from Works in RTF format,
which can be read by any word processor.

I do not know what version Works. I have Word on an Office CD, do I just
install Office again? Will it prompt me for a custom Installation? Is it
rather clear about the converter?
Thanks for your help...tcoop

With the CD handy from Windows > control panel > add and remove programs >
locate Microsoft Office, select and click 'change' - when the dialog box
pops up select add and remove features from the next dialog box check
'Choose advanced customization of applications' then click Next. From the
office shared > converters & filters > text converters, check the Works
filter and OK your way out of the dialogs. If that doesn't enable you to
open the documents contact me via my web site.
