Aloha Everyone!
We have a remote location (Island of Hawai'i) which for two years was
connected to our O'ahu office via a VPN over the public Internet.
The Honolulu subnet was 192.168.1.xxx. The Kona subnet was
192.168.101.xxx.
Recently we purchased a new phone system, and needed a better
connection to Kona with lower latency, so we got a private bridge via
VLAN.
Now Kona is on the same 192.168.1.xxx subnet.
The bridge works well. Folks in Kona get web pages lickety split, can
access the Exchange server, see network resources in Honolulu.
But now that Kona is on the same subnet as Honolulu Word lags like
hell, even though the documents they are working on are local to their
machine in Kona.
When users open a document off their local hard drive, word hangs for
a few seconds. If they "save as" it hangs for a few seconds.
Sometimes it just hangs for a few seconds for no good reason.
If I log them in locally, to the machine itself, not to the domain,
everything works as it should.
But when they are logged into the domain, Word lags in such a way as
to make it highly annoying.
Why would it do this? Especially when working with stricly local
files?
When they were on their own subnet this issue never came up. It is
only after they were moved to the Honolulu subnet.
The latency is about 15-17 MS to Honolulu, but again, all the work
should be local to their machine.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
