Any ideas on why Word would suddenly take so long to open? Using Windows XP
and Office 2000 Pro

This may be due to a common XP glitch. If you are new to
XP you need to know that you should occasionally go into
the control panel/Internet Options and delete all your
temp. files. This solves alot of problems related to
memory including messages that you're low on memory when
you know you're not.
..

It appears to be a bug in a recent update of Norton AV - uncheck its Office
plug-in.

Thanks for the answer, but I do that regularly.

Thanks for the information. We will do a manual live update daily until the
fix is available. I can only assume they are working on correcting the
problem.

Thanks ------------- Bonnie

Thanks, Graham. I am sure Symantec is working a fix right now and all will
be well shortly. But in the meantime, it's good to know what happened!

Thanks -------------- Bonnie

You're welcome, Bonnie :)

I hope Norton fixes this soon, as the antivirus is an essential
program.

The antivirus may be essential, but the Office plug-in does nothing useful.
You can work quite happily and faster without it. Your security will not be
compromised on this account...... but how embarrassing for the leading AV
software producer ... LOL
