Word - how to save .dot to .doc?

I have a Word form that I'm filling in can't save it as
a .doc extension. How can I do this?

File, save as, word document.
Also note - this is a Windows 2000 group - try one for Word.
 
When you click File > Save As... , you are not given the option to save as a
..doc? It should be the default, even if you open up a template file (.dot).
